Baltimore, Maryland – August 1, 2026 – Dr. Satheesh K. Kathula, an internationally respected hematologist, oncologist, educator, and healthcare leader, was honored with the Excellence in Medicine Award at the American Telugu Association (ATA) Annual Convention held in Baltimore, Maryland. The prestigious award recognizes his outstanding contributions to oncology, medical education, public health, and compassionate patient care.
With more than two decades of clinical experience, Dr. Kathula has dedicated his career to the treatment of complex cancers, including lung, gastrointestinal, and blood cancers. A graduate of Siddhartha Medical College, he completed his residency and fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Wright State University, where he currently serves as Clinical Professor of Medicine.
Dr. Kathula is board certified in Hematology and Medical Oncology, a Diplomate of the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine, and has completed advanced executive education programs in Global Healthcare Leadership at Harvard Medical School and Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare at Stanford University.
As President of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) for 2024–2025, Dr. Kathula led several landmark initiatives to advance medical education, promote cancer prevention and public health awareness, strengthen physician engagement, and expand community outreach. He also successfully organized the 2024 AAPI Global Healthcare Summit in New Delhi, fostering collaboration among healthcare leaders and policymakers from across the globe.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Kathula has received numerous prestigious honors, including the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2018 Man of the Year recognition and the U.S. Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for his exceptional volunteer service. The ATA Excellence in Medicine Award further recognizes his unwavering commitment to clinical excellence, medical leadership, and improving the lives of patients.
Accepting the award, Dr. Kathula dedicated the honor to medical professionals around the world who devote themselves to excellence in medicine and compassionate patient care.
