Ceremonial Opening

The gala commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and the importance of community service. Key figures including Dr. Rajeev Mehta, Chairman of GLO-INDIA; H.S. Panaser, President; Dinesh Mittal, Co-Chairman; and Rajlaxmi Kadam, Consul (Trade) at the Consulate General of India in New York, participated in this inaugural ritual. Kadam represented Ambassador Binaya S. Pradhan, Consul General of India in New York, underlining the event’s significance in strengthening ties between the two nations.

Following the lamp-lighting, attendees joined in the Pledge of Allegiance, which was succeeded by stirring performances of the national anthems of the United States and India by Alicia Kaur, a former participant on the television show X-Factor. Her vocal renditions received enthusiastic applause, marking one of the evening’s highlights.

Dr. Sudhir Parikh, a prominent physician and media executive, served as the keynote speaker for the evening. A recipient of the Padma Shri award, Dr. Parikh reflected on the evolution of the Indian American community since the 1990s.
