Stale Mate, directed by Bahrain-based filmmaker couple Prakash Vadakara and Jaya Menon, is now streaming on ManoramaMAX, bringing another diaspora-produced Malayalam short film to OTT audiences.
Stale Mate, a short film produced under the banner of Edathody Films Pvt. Ltd., has been released on the OTT platform ManoramaMAX, offering audiences another addition to the growing body of independent Malayalam short films created by members of the Indian diaspora.
The film is directed and scripted by Bahrain-based actor-director couple Prakash Vadakara and Jaya Menon, both familiar faces in the Gulf’s Malayalam cultural and theatre circles. The project has been produced by Bahrain-based filmmaker Edathody Bhaskaran under Edathody Films Pvt. Ltd., a film production company registered with India’s Ministry of Corporate Affairs in 2025.
According to the producers, Stale Mate has already received recognition from several film award committees and associations. Another short film by the same director duo, Faces in Faces, is also expected to be released online soon under the same production banner.
Edathody Films is currently associated with multiple independent film projects. In addition to Stale Mate and Faces in Faces, the company has produced Stars in the Darkness and Achanmaash, both of which have reportedly been submitted to various award committees in India for consideration.
The makers describe Stale Mate as a film intended to offer viewers a distinctive short-film experience while highlighting the creative contributions of overseas Malayali filmmakers. Its release on ManoramaMAX provides a wider platform for audiences to access independent productions created outside India’s mainstream film industry.
Producer Edathody Bhaskaran thanked viewers and supporters for encouraging the team’s filmmaking efforts and expressed optimism about the reception of the company’s upcoming projects.
