- The cult Aadu universe expands into a time‑bending fantasy comedy thriller, blending satire, science fiction, and historical spectacle –
Global, 22nd April 2026:Malayalam Zee5 is set to premiere Aadu 3on May 1, marking the grand return of one of Malayalam cinema’s most beloved cult franchises. Written and directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas, the film is the third instalment in the Aadu series and the first part of a two‑film epic that pushes the franchise into unexpected, ambitious terrain.
Produced jointly by Friday Film House (Vijay Babu) and Kavya Film Company (Venu Kunnappilly), Aadu 3 reunites the iconic ensemble led by Jayasurya as Shaji Pappan, alongside Saiju Kurup, Vinayakan, Renji Panicker, Vijay Babu, Sunny Wayne, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Bhagath Manuel, Indrans, Bijukuttan, Sudhi Koppa, and Harikrishnan, all reprising their much‑loved roles. The new chapter also introduces Alleya Bourne and Krishna Jeev, expanding the canvas of the Aadu universe.
While the earlier Aadu films gained cult status for their anarchic humour and sharply etched characters, Aadu 3 marks a decisive shift in scale. Set across multiple timelines, the story unfolds simultaneously in a dystopian future, colonial‑era Kerala, and the present day.
In the year 2370, Earth is ruled by an authoritarian regime known as the Organization, which seeks a rare celestial element called Star Dust, believed to possess the power to alter timelines. In 1790 CE, Maharaja Padmanabhan Thampuranpresides over a seemingly impoverished kingdom while secretly guarding a dangerous truth linked to the same substance, amid peasant revolts, colonial greed, and the looming threat of invasion. In the present, Shaji Pappanand his associates, fresh from their victory over old adversaries, stumble into a conspiracy far larger than they realise, one that binds their fate to events unfolding across centuries. As these timelines converge, actions taken in one era begin to reshape reality in another, culminating in a rupture that propels key characters across time.
Speaking about the film’s premiere, director Midhun Manuel Thomas said, “The Aadu films have always found a strong second life beyond theatres, and Aadu 3 was conceived with that long‑form engagement in mind. Bringing this film to Malayalam Zee5 allows audiences to experience the scale, the layered timelines, and the humour in a more immersive way. It’s still the same irreverent Aadu world but told with much more narrative space.”
On portraying two characters across different eras, Jayasurya added, “Shaji Pappan belongs to the present, while Maharaja Padmanabhan Thampuran carries the burden of history. Playing both roles within the same film was challenging but also rewarding because their choices echo into one another. I’m glad audiences will be able to discover those layers when the film premieres on ZEE5 Global.”
