This event served as a precursor to the upcoming grand celebration of Azadi Ka Mahotsav, which will mark the dual milestones of India’s 80th Independence Day and the 250th Anniversary of the United States. The gathering occurred at the Consulate General of India, bringing together community leaders, business figures, representatives from various Indian-American organizations, and media outlets.
Gathering Community Support
The event attracted a diverse audience, highlighting increasing support for NAIO’s initiative aimed at establishing a unified platform for individuals of Indian origin residing in the United States. This initiative is particularly timely given the growing demographic and political influence of Indian-Americans in the U.S., which has seen the community actively engage in civic matters and seek greater representation.
The evening commenced with an introduction by Master of Ceremonies Madhu Pareek, followed by a traditional Ganesh Vandana, which set a cultural tone for the proceedings. Dr. Raj Bhayani, Founder Trustee of NAIO, took the stage to outline the alliance’s mission, emphasizing the importance of uniting various social, cultural, professional, business, and religious groups across the nation. “NAIO is committed to uniting Indian Americans across social, cultural, professional, business, and religious organizations to create a stronger, more influential, and collaborative community,” Dr. Bhayani stated.

In his keynote address, Mr. Binaya Pradhan, Consul General of India in New York, commended NAIO’s mission to rally the diaspora and bolster ties between the United States and India. He urged attendees to work collectively through shared democratic values and public service initiatives, reflecting the significance of Indian-American contributions to the socio-political landscape of the United States and the cultural ties that bind the two nations.
“We must remember that our strength lies in our unity and our commitment to civic engagement,” Mr. Pradhan added, underscoring the importance of a collaborative effort to enhance the community’s voice and influence.
Strategic Plans for Future Engagement
Leadership members of NAIO provided insights into the strategic roadmap for the organization. Chintu Patel noted that NAIO is currently in its formative stage, urging community members to actively participate to secure a lasting foundation for future generations. He emphasized that a strong community presence in the political arena is crucial for the Indian-American population.
Harry Singh Bolla stressed the vital role of political awareness and civic involvement, advocating for greater participation in the democratic process to build long-term influence. This call to action aligns with broader trends in which minority communities are increasingly seeking to assert their rights and influence policy decisions.
Naveen Shah introduced NAIO’s organizational framework and strategic roadmap, which focuses on establishing an inclusive national network of Indian-American organizations. Kenny Desai detailed a nationwide campaign that will see leaders traveling state by state to engage local organizations and integrate them into the NAIO alliance.
Additional addresses underscoring the importance of unity were delivered by Dr. Navin Mehta, Dr. Dipak Nandi, H. R. Shah, Dr. Datta Noori, and Gary Sikka. As part of the event’s agenda, a promotional video was unveiled, previewing the official Azadi Ka Mahotsav celebration scheduled for August 15, 2026, at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale, New York. This celebration is expected to draw thousands of attendees and will emphasize themes of freedom, diversity, and the enduring relationship between the United States and India. The event aims not only to commemorate India’s independence but also to showcase the contributions of Indian-Americans to American society.

As the formal proceedings concluded, Shashi Malik delivered a Vote of Thanks, followed by a group photo session coordinated by Rita Batheja and a networking dinner.
