A record number of attendees converged at TiEcon 2026, where leaders in business and technology explored the future of artificial intelligence and its impact on entrepreneurship.
Santa Clara, California – TiEcon 2026, the annual flagship conference hosted by TiE Silicon Valley, took place from May 5 to May 7, 2026, at the Santa Clara Convention Center. This year’s event attracted over 3,000 participants, featuring 180 speakers across more than 70 sessions. The theme, “AI & You: Human Centered, AI Powered,” underscored a vision for a future where artificial intelligence enhances human creativity and decision-making rather than replacing it.
AI’s Role in Entrepreneurship
TiE, originally known as The Indus Entrepreneurs, was founded in Silicon Valley in 1992 with the goal of fostering entrepreneurship through mentoring, networking, education, funding, and incubation. With over 60 global chapters in 18 countries and a membership exceeding 15,000 individuals, TiE has evolved into one of the world’s largest entrepreneurial ecosystems.
The opening keynote was delivered by Jacob Helberg, the U.S. Secretary of State for Economic Affairs. This session set the tone for discussions focused on the evolving relationship between humans and AI. A notable session featured a fireside chat moderated by Bala Kasiviswanathan, Vice President of Products at Snowflake, with Karandeep Anand, CEO of Character AI, and Tom Ochhino, Chief Product Officer of Vercel. The discussion emphasized how AI is transforming product management and engineering, moving beyond a mere assistant role into that of an autonomous entity capable of developing and optimizing systems independently. The speakers highlighted the urgency for professionals to adapt to this rapid evolution, urging them to become multidisciplinary “product owners” with a broad skill set and strong judgment.
Infrastructure Challenges in AI Development
Another significant discussion was moderated by Sumit Sadana, Chief Business Officer of Micron. He spoke with Santosh Janardhan, Co-Head of Engineering at Meta, about the challenges of building AI infrastructure at scale. Janardhan revealed that hyperscale companies are investing nearly a trillion dollars annually in AI infrastructure, which fundamentally alters traditional cloud workloads. He discussed the necessity for innovations in cooling systems, memory usage, and network architecture to meet the demands of AI workloads, which are far more intensive than previous models. The session concluded with a shared optimism that AI has the potential to democratize intelligence, akin to how the internet expanded access to information.
Transformational Opportunities in the AI Era
Naveen Chaddha, Managing Partner at Mayfield, returned to the Grand Stage at TiEcon to discuss why the AI era signifies a transformational “100x wave,” surpassing previous technological cycles. He articulated how AI allows machines to understand natural language and act autonomously, creating a paradigm where anyone can become a builder, not just programmers. Chaddha compared the infrastructure needs for AI to an “intelligence grid,” analogous to the way electricity grids facilitated past industrial revolutions. His insights drew upon his journey from IIT Delhi to Stanford, emphasizing that successful startups are built on culture, adaptability, and a strong team.
Honoring a Legacy of Innovation
During the conference, Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO of Micron Technology, received the Lifetime of Transformations Award from TiE. Anita Manwani, President of TiE Silicon Valley, praised Mehrotra’s career, which has significantly impacted the global tech landscape. In a discussion moderated by Manish Bhatia, EVP of Global Operations at Micron, Mehrotra reflected on his entrepreneurial journey, highlighting key decisions that shaped the memory and storage industries, including the rejection of exclusivity agreements in favor of open standards. He emphasized the critical role of semiconductors in the AI renaissance, asserting that they remain fundamental to technological progress and expressing optimism about future opportunities generated by AI.
A Gathering of Innovators
TiEcon 2026 served as a nexus for entrepreneurs, investors, technologists, and industry leaders, fostering high-value networking and knowledge exchange. Attendees engaged with thought leaders on various topics, including AI, cybersecurity, media, entertainment, semiconductors, and infrastructure. The conference provided a platform for participants to connect and share insights on emerging technologies and opportunities, reinforcing TiE’s mission to cultivate a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem.
As the discussions unfolded, the overarching sentiment was one of optimism for the future of AI and its capacity to unlock unprecedented innovation. TiEcon 2026 not only showcased the advancements being made in technology but also emphasized the importance of human-centered approaches in harnessing these advancements for broader societal benefit.
