Egypt celebrated a historic first World Cup victory, while Spain maintained their strong form and Cape Verde continued their impressive debut campaign with a hard-earned draw against Uruguay.

Spain continued their impressive FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign with a commanding victory over Saudi Arabia, while Egypt celebrated a historic milestone and Cape Verde extended their remarkable debut run as Groups G and H delivered another day of compelling action.

Spain produced one of the standout performances of the tournament so far, defeating Saudi Arabia 4-0 in Group H. The Spanish side controlled proceedings from start to finish, showcasing their attacking depth and reinforcing their status as one of the tournament favourites.

The group’s other fixture saw Uruguay held to a 2-2 draw by World Cup newcomers Cape Verde. The debutants once again impressed against elite opposition, earning a valuable point that keeps their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive. Uruguay, meanwhile, will head into their final group match needing a strong result to secure qualification.

In Group G, Egypt recorded a landmark achievement, defeating New Zealand 3-1 to register the country’s first-ever FIFA World Cup victory.

New Zealand took an early lead through Finn Surman, but Egypt responded strongly after the break. Mostafa Zico drew the sides level before captain Mohamed Salah inspired the comeback with a goal and an assist, helping Egypt move to the top of the group standings.

The other Group G encounter ended in a goalless draw between Belgium and Iran. Despite opportunities for both sides, neither team was able to find the breakthrough in a tightly contested match, leaving the race for qualification finely balanced heading into the final round of group fixtures.

With one match remaining in the group stage, Spain and Egypt have strengthened their positions, while Uruguay, Cape Verde, Belgium and Iran remain locked in battles for places in the knockout rounds.
