Dr. Kishore was felicitated for his induction as a Senior Member of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) — a prestigious honor reserved for innovators whose work has demonstrated real‑world impact. For him, the recognition is not merely a milestone but a reflection of a four‑decade mission rooted in purpose. “Innovation is meaningful only when it improves lives, especially for those who need it most,” he often says — a philosophy that has guided his global scientific journey.

A Distinguished Community of Innovators

The University of Utah Health emphasized that the honorees represent extraordinary scientists — including Nobel Laureate Prof. Mario Capecchi — whose discoveries have transformed the prevention, detection, and treatment of cancer and numerous other diseases. Faculty recognized this year included members of the National Academy of Medicine, American Academy of Arts & Sciences, American Association for the Advancement of Science, National Academy of Inventors, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, PEW Foundation, Fulbright Scholars, and others.

Within this constellation of scientific excellence, Dr. Kishore’s recognition highlights his unique blend of rigorous research, global experience, and commitment to societal impact.

A Global Scientific Journey Rooted in Purpose

A physician‑scientist whose career spans India, Japan, Belgium, and the United States, Dr. Kishore has spent 40 years advancing renal physiology, obesity research, metabolic disorders, and experimental therapeutics. His tenure includes four years in the Intramural Research Program of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute at the NIH and two decades as Principal Investigator at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Salt Lake City Health Care System.

Colleagues often describe him as a scientist who “thinks in systems, not silos,” exploring how interconnected biological pathways shape disease and how targeted interventions can transform patient outcomes.

Inventor, Entrepreneur, and Visionary Leader

In recent years, Dr. Kishore has expanded his scientific mission into entrepreneurship. As Co‑founder, CEO, and CSO of ePurines, Inc., he leads a biotech startup in the University of Utah Research Park that commercializes his patented purinergic signaling‑based technologies. These innovations offer promising therapeutic strategies for the emerging Cardiovascular‑Kidney‑Metabolic (CKM) disease spectrum — one of the most pressing global health challenges.

“Science must move from the bench to the bedside — and then beyond, into communities worldwide,” he says, underscoring his belief that entrepreneurship is a natural extension of scientific responsibility.

A Scholar With a Poet’s Heart

Despite a demanding scientific and entrepreneurial schedule, Dr. Kishore nurtures a parallel passion: writing. He is the author of the Living with a Purpose series on Amazon and has co‑authored a book with Kevin Harrington, one of the original Sharks of The Shark Tank. “Research and poetry are not opposites,” he notes. “Both search for truth — one through data, the other through reflection.”

Service, Leadership, and Global Recognition

Dr. Kishore’s impact extends beyond laboratories and boardrooms. As Vice President of the USA Chapter of the NRI Welfare Society of India, he has championed community service and diaspora engagement. The Society has honored him with the Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela Leadership Awards, Hind Rattan, Pravasi Rattan, and Indian Overseas Awards for his professional excellence and humanitarian contributions.

In January 2026, the National Awareness Times featured him on its cover during its Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebration — recognizing him among distinguished global Indian achievers.

A Philosophy That Inspires

At the heart of Dr. Kishore’s work lies a simple but profound belief: “True innovation in medicine isn’t about new molecules and patents — it’s about finding ways to reach every corner of the world with affordable solutions.”

His guiding inspiration comes from Dr. Govindappa Venkataswamy, founder of Aravind Eye Care: “Intelligence and capability are not enough. There must be the joy of doing something beautiful.”

For Dr. Kishore, that joy is found in discovery, in service, and in the unwavering pursuit of a healthier world — a pursuit now recognized and celebrated by one of the nation’s leading academic medical institutions.
