“The event witnessed an overwhelming response, with more than 220 attendees coming together to launch preparations for the grand celebration of India’s 80th Independence Anniversary.” — India Day Parade USA organisers

Preparations for the 15th India Day Parade USA officially began with a curtain raiser event held on June 16 at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building in Mineola, New York, bringing together elected officials, community leaders, sponsors, media representatives and members of the Indian American community.

Organisers said more than 220 attendees participated in the event, which marked the formal launch of activities leading up to the annual parade scheduled for August 23, 2026, in Hicksville, New York.

Among those attending the event was New York State Senator Steve Rhoads, who highlighted the significance of the celebration for the Indian American community.

“Thrilled to attend the 15th Annual India Day Parade Curtain Raiser Celebration yesterday, recognizing the rich culture, traditions, and contributions of the Indian-American community. Looking forward to the parade this summer!” Rhoads shared in a social media post.

The 2026 edition of the parade will hold special significance as it coincides with celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of India’s Independence.

Organisers said the curtain raiser was intended to launch preparations for the landmark celebration while helping spread “the message of unity, cultural pride, and community engagement” across the wider community.

According to organisers, the event witnessed an overwhelming response from elected officials, dignitaries, community leaders, sponsors and media representatives who gathered to support the initiative and celebrate the contributions of the Indian American community.

The event drew participation from a broad cross-section of community stakeholders, including public officials, business leaders, cultural organisations and representatives of the media.

India Day Parade USA organisers said the annual event has grown into one of the largest celebrations of Indian heritage in the United States, bringing together thousands of participants and spectators each year.

The parade is expected to feature cultural performances, community organisations, business groups, marching contingents and displays reflecting India’s diverse traditions and heritage.

The 15th India Day Parade USA is scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 23, 2026, in Hicksville, New York, and is expected to serve as a major platform for celebrating Indian culture and commemorating India’s 80 years of independence.
