Dubai Police Investigate Mohsin Naqvi Over Alleged Asia Cup Trophy Dispute

Share the story

Dubai, October 2, 2025 — The Asia Cup 2025 final between India and Pakistan has sparked controversy off the field, with the tournament trophy at the center of a dispute.

Following India’s victory, the Indian team refused to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, citing concerns over political affiliations and recent tensions between the two countries.

Reports indicate that Naqvi took the trophy and medals with him, prompting the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to file a formal complaint with Dubai Police. The BCCI has issued a 72-hour ultimatum for the return of the trophy, warning that legal action, including potential arrest, could follow if the deadline is not met.

Naqvi has maintained that the trophy remains in his possession and that India is welcome to collect it from the ACC office. He denied any wrongdoing and stated that no apology has been issued to the BCCI.

The incident has triggered widespread debate about sportsmanship, diplomacy, and the appropriate handling of international sporting events. Authorities and cricket officials are exploring legal and diplomatic channels to resolve the matter.
