INS Sudarshini‘s participation in America’s 250th Independence Day celebrations underscored the growing maritime partnership, goodwill, and friendship between India and the United States.
The Indian Navy’s sail training ship INS Sudarshini participated in the United States’ 250th Independence Day celebrations after entering the Port of New York and New Jersey to take part in the United States International Naval Review 250 and Sail4th 250 commemorations.
The three-masted barque sailed along the Hudson River during the Parade of Sail on July 4, proudly flying the Indian tricolor alongside naval vessels from several nations participating in the historic event.
According to the Embassy of India in Washington, the ship’s participation reflected the growing maritime partnership between India and the United States.
An Indian Navy spokesperson said the visit “showcases the growing India-U.S. naval partnership, maritime goodwill, and friendship.”
The New York port call followed earlier visits to Norfolk, Virginia, and Baltimore, Maryland, where the vessel participated in related commemorative events.
INS Sudarshini is currently undertaking Lokayan 2026, a 10-month transoceanic voyage designed to strengthen international naval cooperation, enhance goodwill, and promote India’s maritime heritage through engagements with partner nations across multiple oceans.
The visit to New York formed part of the broader international celebrations marking 250 years of American independence, bringing together naval ships from around the world in one of the largest maritime events held in recent decades.
