Trump and Egypt Invite PM Modi to Sharm El Sheikh Gaza Peace Summit

India has been invited to participate in a global peace summit on Gaza, co-hosted by U.S. President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, to be held in Sharm El Sheikh. Although the invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi was extended at short notice, New Delhi decided to send Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh as the country’s representative.

The summit, expected to include leaders from over 20 countries, aims to chart a path toward ending the Gaza conflict, promoting regional stability, and establishing a coordinated approach to peace. India’s involvement is seen as a gesture of its diplomatic posture in the Middle East and its longstanding concern for the Palestinian issue.

While Modi’s attendance was initially considered, government sources indicated that logistical and diplomatic sensitivities led to the decision to send a special envoy instead. The presence of other regional leaders and the complex geopolitical landscape likely influenced this choice.

India’s participation offers an opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to peace in the region, deepen engagement with Egyptian and U.S. counterparts, and project its role in global diplomacy.
