Ranbir Kapoor — Rajkumar Hirani Film Delayed as Director Shifts to Phalke Biopic

Rajkumar Hirani’s upcoming project with Ranbir Kapoor has been postponed, with plans now aiming for a 2027 launch. The anticipated athlete biopic, previously expected to start production soon, has been shelved for the time being.

The main reason behind the delay is Hirani’s decision to shift his focus. He is now directing a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, with Aamir Khan attached to portray the legendary filmmaker. Preparations for the Phalke film are underway, and it is slated to begin before the Hirani–Kapoor project resumes.

Additionally, Ranbir Kapoor’s packed schedule has contributed to the postponement. His upcoming commitments include Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, followed by Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, and then decisions between projects such as Dhoom 4 and Animal Park.

While fans hope for the reunion of Hirani and Kapoor, the director appears focused on first bringing the Phalke biopic to life.
