Prime Minister’s Visit to Japan and China (29 August – 1 September 2025)

At the invitation of the Prime Minister of Japan, H.E. Shigeru Ishiba, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will undertake an official visit to Japan on 29–30 August 2025 to participate in the 15th India–Japan Annual Summit. This marks Prime Minister Modi’s eighth visit to Japan and his first bilateral summit with Prime Minister Ishiba.

During the summit, the two leaders will comprehensively review the India–Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, covering areas such as defense and security, trade and economic cooperation, technology and innovation, as well as cultural and people-to-people ties. They will also exchange views on regional and global developments. The visit will further strengthen the deep and time-tested friendship between the two nations.

In the second leg of his journey, Prime Minister Modi will visit China from 31 August to 1 September 2025, at the invitation of President H.E. Xi Jinping, to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin. On the sidelines, the Prime Minister is expected to hold bilateral discussions with other participating leaders.

India has been a member of the SCO since 2017 and previously held the presidency of the Council of Heads of State in 2022–23.
