Survey Reveals Deep Divisions Over H-1B Visas and Green Card Hiring Priorities in U.S.

Share the story

A new survey among 4,230 U.S. professionals reveals a stark split in attitudes toward H-1B visa holders. About 56% of U.S. citizens believe that H-1B holders are taking jobs away from Americans. The data also show strong support among many for giving hiring priority to Green Card holders and citizens over those on H-1B visas.

While some professionals argue that companies should hire the best talent regardless of immigration status, many U.S. citizens push for stricter preferences. In contrast, foreign-born workers and H-1B visa holders are more likely to see H-1Bs as beneficial to the country’s competitiveness and economy.

Employees at technology companies are deeply divided. Some believe the visa system undercuts job opportunities for American workers; others say it’s essential for industry growth and innovation. The results highlight how immigration policy, job security, and economic interests are becoming increasingly tangled in U.S. debates.
