Keir Starmer to Visit India on October 8–9: Strengthening India-UK Strategic Partnership and Trade Ties

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will undertake his first official visit to India on October 8–9, 2025, following an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Strengthening Strategic Partnership

During his visit, Starmer and Modi are scheduled to meet in Mumbai on October 9 to review progress under the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, aligned with the Vision 2035 roadmap. The discussions will center around trade, investment, innovation, defense, energy, education, climate cooperation, and people-to-people connections.

A key topic on the agenda will be the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which is expected to serve as a cornerstone for deepening economic collaboration. Both leaders will also discuss regional and global challenges, explore technology partnerships, and engage with top business and industry leaders.

Global Fintech Focus

Starmer and Modi are also scheduled to address the 6th Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai, where they will speak about the future of financial innovation, digital inclusion, and international cooperation in the fintech sector.

Building on Recent Momentum

This visit follows the successful conclusion of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement earlier this year and marks an important step in advancing bilateral cooperation. Analysts believe Starmer’s trip will solidify strategic ties, open new economic opportunities, and reaffirm both nations’ shared commitment to global growth and stability.

Diplomatic Significance

The visit symbolizes the strengthening of India-UK relations as both nations seek to shape a forward-looking partnership grounded in mutual trust, investment, and innovation. With a focus on sustainable development and emerging technologies, the dialogue is expected to redefine cooperation across multiple sectors for the next decade.
