The Karnataka Medical Council (KMC) recently showcased India’s commitment to global medical regulation by participating in the International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities (IAMRA) Conference 2025, held in Dublin, Ireland. This prestigious five-day event brought together over 36 medical regulatory bodies from around the world, with the World Health Organization (WHO) also in attendance.

Global Collaboration on Medical Regulation

The conference served as a platform for international collaboration, focusing on the evolving landscape of medical regulation in response to technological advancements and ethical considerations. Discussions encompassed a wide range of topics, including the integration of telemedicine, the ethical use of social media by medical professionals, the incorporation of artificial intelligence in healthcare, and strategies to enhance physician well-being as a core component of patient safety.

India’s Active Participation

Representatives from India, including members from the KMC, National Medical Commission (NMC), and Gujarat Medical Council (GMC), actively engaged in these discussions. Notably, Dr. Chytra V Anand, a member of the KMC delegation, highlighted the council’s efforts to ensure transparency in malpractice investigations and to improve healthcare access in rural areas.

Looking Ahead

The insights gained from the IAMRA 2025 conference are expected to inform and enhance India’s medical regulatory framework. By adopting best practices from global counterparts, the KMC aims to foster a more transparent, efficient, and patient-centered healthcare system.
