Infosys Secures ₹14,000 Crore NHS Contract to Overhaul UK Workforce System

Share the story

Indian IT giant Infosys has been awarded a 15-year contract worth roughly £1.2 billion (around ₹14,000 crore) by the UK’s NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) to modernize its workforce management infrastructure. Under the agreement, Infosys will replace the existing Electronic Staff Record (ESR) system with a next-generation, data-driven solution covering the full employee lifecycle — from hiring and onboarding to payroll, performance, and retirement.

This new platform is designed to manage the payroll of approximately 1.9 million NHS employees across England and Wales, handling over £55 billion in annual payments. The system will also integrate AI and advanced analytics to streamline workforce planning, support data-driven decisions, and offer a more intuitive, self-service experience for staff.

NHSBSA’s CEO emphasized that this initiative goes beyond mere system replacement, aiming to create a strategic backbone for a future-ready workforce. Infosys CEO Salil Parekh stated that the company’s experience in large-scale digital transformations, combined with its AI capabilities (through its Topaz offering), will help the NHS deliver more efficient and empowered services.

The deal comes at a time when Indian IT firms are under pressure from economic headwinds, global trade friction, and shifts in immigration policy. Still, this contract is among the largest public-sector deals in Europe for Infosys in recent years, reinforcing its capability in delivering mission-critical systems at national scale.
