Armless Archer Sheetal Devi Makes History with World Championship Gold

In a groundbreaking achievement at the Gwangju 2025 World Archery Para Championships, 18-year-old Sheetal Devi from India secured the gold medal in the women’s compound individual event. Despite being born without arms, Devi showcased exceptional skill and determination, defeating the reigning world champion, Oznur Cure Girdi of Turkey, with a score of 146–143.

Devi’s journey into archery began in 2022 and has been marked by rapid progress and inspiring performances. Her victory in Gwangju adds to her growing list of accomplishments, which includes gold medals at the 2022 Asian Para Games and a bronze at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

The triumph in Gwangju is not only a personal milestone for Devi but also a significant moment for Indian para sports, highlighting the country’s rising prominence on the global stage.
